White water lilies listen to the melody of peace... Oh, the warning sirens again!!!

Svitlana Gunchenko

The Luminous Calm of Svitlana Gunchenko’s Art

Question to the Artist: “What would you like to say to the American visitors of the exhibition”?

Svitlana Gunchenko (December 2023): "Dawn. The first sun rays in the east break through the pink clouds. It is quiet. A nightingale tweeted somewhere in the cherry orchard. It was answered by a second one. The people are still sleeping. I take my sketchbook on my shoulder and go to the fairy tale. The cold dew along the path sparkles like gems. A bee buzzes somewhere in the flower. There is a cool breeze from the valley. White fog is still sleeping there. Willows are looking into the clear water. White water lilies listen to the melody of peace...

Oh, the warning siren again!!! My dream was cut short, and reality began. War!!! Where are you, nightingale gardens? The ashes of Ukrainian huts look at the sky with black wounds of broken windows... My little daughter is crying in her sleep. I do not know what awaits us...

God, save Ukraine!!!."

Svitlana Gunchenko is a Ukrainian painter, she works in the field of easel painting and graphic design, born in 1978 in the city of Kyiv. She lives and works in Kyiv now.

Her paintings are made in the wonderful traditions of Ukrainian impressionism and express the artist's love for the landscape, for various states of nature, for such nuances as the first morning rays of the sun, the last glint of the setting sun, the morning fog that slowly melts away. The artist portrays people, both adults and children, with care and skill. She depicts them in such a way that it is easy for us to feel their states, to empathize, to admire.

This is not surprising, as from the age of 11 she studied at specialized art schools, first in Zhytomyr and then in Kyiv. In 2001, she became a laureate of the M.S. Dmytrenko Prize of the Ukrainian National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture. In 2006, an internship in the studio of the outstanding Ukrainian master, Professor V. Gurin, became important for the formation of Svitlana Gunchenko as an artist.

With pleasure, Svitlana Gunchenko recalls her participation in the international art plein air “Montenegro-2019”, which became possible with the assistance of the International Foundation “Cultural Heritage”, the gallery “N-Prospect”, the gallery “Castello di Boca”.

Svitlana Gunchenko has participated in numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and Poland. Her works are kept in private collections in Germany, Poland, Ukraine and the USA.
